Artificial tooth enamel

So-called artificial tooth enamel is based on the principles of bionics. Through the production of biomimetic hydroxyapatite, it has been possible to replicate a mineral substance and combine it with a toothpaste.

The principle of bionics

The term ‘bionics’ describes the combination of biology and technology. It involves applying a natural phenomenon to a technical system, for example: the camera lens was modelled on the human eye.

Spruce it up instead of wearing it out

The microcrystalline structure of hydroxyapatite adheres directly to the surface of the enamel whilst brushing. This allows even the tiniest cracks and porous areas in the enamel to be repaired.

Studies : Proven effectiveness

  • Clinical trial : 17 

    A meta-analysis of 17 scientific studies shows that hydroxyapatite significantly whitens tooth enamel.1

  • Clinical trial : 90%

    In a double-blind clinical study involving 140 participants, an improvement in sensitivity was found in 90% of participants who used a toothpaste containing hydroxyapatite.²

  • Clinical trial : 99.3%

    An in vitro study confirmed that hydroxyapatite can neutralise up to 99.3% of the acid contained in cola and acts as erosion protection and a source of calcium.³

Apatites, such as hydroxyapatite, are minerals and belong to the class of calcium phosphates. There are a number of different calcium phosphates. Hydroxyapatite is the most stable and, for humans, the most important calcium phosphate, as it forms the mineral phase of teeth and bones. The chemical formula for hydroxyapatite is: Ca₅(PO₄)₃(OH). 

Hydroxyapatite plays a vital role in the human body. It forms the basis of teeth and bones. In both cases, hydroxyapatite is responsible for their hardness. Unlike many other active ingredients used in dental care, hydroxyapatite is a substance produced naturally by the body.
